TIPS FOR EVERY STAGE OF THE CITY2SURF

Over 80,000 people are taking on the City2Surf challenge in 2024. This year, it’s your turn to dominate the streets of the world’s largest fun run. A challenging course coupled with spectacular views – City2Surf is made for greatness. Ready to find out what completing it feels like? Once you’ve made your way to the start, here’s how you squeeze the most out of every kilometre:

Rain, hail or shine, the race will go on, and what you wear for those 14km can define your entire experience.  With the unpredictable Sydney weather, the key is having lightweight tech layers that can come off before the race, or during, and be packed or transported easily while you run.  Here are our top recommended items for this year’s City2Surf:

Start – The APPREHENSION

You’re geared up in the latest and greatest adidas running kit.

Whether you’re running for the first time in your first pair of SL2’s, going for your PB in the adidas Adizero Boston 12’s, or trying to reach the podium in the adizero adios Pro 3’s, you’re ready to hit the streets. Double-check to ensure your watch and ensure your adidas running app is ready.

STAGE 2 – THE CROWD

Here, the race begins and the masses of participants converge down William Street. You didn’t make a race plan for nothing. Relax, find your rhythm and try not to fall for the temptation of speeding up in this slight downhill section. Stay calm and controlled as you head up through the Kings Cross Tunnel.

STAGE 2 – THE RHYTHM

As you wind around New South Head Road and admire the views of Rose Bay, capture this moment for the memory books by stopping at our adidas photo frame for a quick snap. Get pumped up as you pound the pavement to the beats of the DJ as you head towards the most challenging part of the course. Find a smooth stride on this long, flat stretch. Keep hydrating and fuel up when possible.

STAGE 3 – THE HIGHLIGHT

City2Surf wouldn’t be the same without Heartbreak Hill. Find your inner strength as you push up the steep incline, picking up some extra energy from the cheering local crowds as you soak in those breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour when you reach the top. You’re officially halfway!

STAGE 4 -  The TEST

Regather your breath as you turn the corner at Vaucluse onto Old South Head Road, then Military Road, and down the hill as you take in those magnificent ocean views before completing the turnaround at Curlewis Street. Grab another water and fuel up for the final stretch.

STAGE 5 – The STILLNESS

You’re almost there as you round the bend overlooking world-famous Bondi Beach.  Make sure to keep your strides steady while admiring the iconic site as you approach the finish line.

FINISH LINE – THE ACHIEVEMENT

Your body can do a lot more than your mind gives it credit for. One last sprint down Queen Elizabeth Drive Street, and you’ve made it.

That’s all it takes and you’ve ticked the City2Surf off your bucket list. Give yourself a pat on the back – what an achievement!

Best of luck this year – YOU GOT THIS.
